One of our international riders this year is Doctor Jaber Beittar. I thought that we might have a few words from him.

Indy: Where are you from, Doctor?
Doc: I am coming from Al Reef Stables in AUE.
Indy: I presume you have competed elsewhere in the world?
Doc: Usually when our season finish in May, we travelled to England, France. With the the foot in mouth disease there, we decided to come and try competing in Australia. It was fortunate in a way because it meant we were able to come and do the Shahzada and other events.
Indy: What other events have you been to in Australia?
Doc: We have been to Charlieville in our first ride. Then the Pioneer track in Herbeton in North Queensland. Then the Desert Challange in Windora, which was pretty good. Then we did a ride in Spring Mountain and Ahmed won the Lightweight in that event. Then we did the State Championships in QLD, then we came straight to Shahzada.
Indy: What were your first impressions of Shahzada when you arrived?
Doc: To summerise it, we just love it. I think we got the bug! I think if you come to a place like this you get a disease called the Shahzada influenza. You just want to keep coming back. I think more than anything, this is a personal challenge.  I think that most of the people here keep coming back, whether they win a buckle or not.
Indy: Any experiences that you had out on the track that you would care to tell us?
Doc: We were all going along pretty good and I am pretty blind and I lost my glasses on the track and if I wouldn't have found them I couldn't go on. Peter Brownley and Len Law stopped to find them. I think this would never happen anywhere else I have been. I can say that it is pretty disappointing to go out on the fourth day in the evening, but at least it gives you the motivation to come again next year, and revise the game plan.
Indy:  What about the organisation?
Doc: Not just the organisation .... the whole ride is great. The people, the Committee ... everyone is fantastic.
Indy: So there is a good chance you will be back next year?
Doc: Pretty good one, actually.
Indy: Thank you very much, Doc, for your time.
